I finally got the opportunity to test my Vyros2 list into Nemo3, as he is proving to be a decent Haley3 drop but needs to be able to handle both. I have thought about this matchup and am fairly certain that he can tank the Feat, but needed to see it in practice. Stuart won the roll to go first and we got moving.

Stu’s Jacks all run up the table, with Nemo putting up Magnetic Field on himself and Electrify onto Dynamo. The lights lead the line with the Storm Strider right over on the right flank.

I know that next turn is going to be Feat turn for Stu, so set myself up to take it as well as possible. Two Griffons go left hidden behind a forest, ready to strike out next turn, and the rest form a clump on the right, ready to Shield Guard between them to spread out damage. The support staff stand at least 4” behind the Jack line to avoid being leapt to. I brace myself.

Stuart prepares for his Feat turn pretty well. Nemo Arcs a Force Hammer through the Firefly, knocking down Imperatus and one of the Griffons, essentially isolating a group of the jacks. He then Feats and shoots everything at them, but the natural Armour 20 of the Griffons is enough to take the worst of it. Dynamo kills a Jack with his second shot allowing his only other possible target to move away and end his activation. By the end of the turn I have only lost a single Aspis, though a lot of other jacks are badly hurt.

I don’t want to overreach with my forces this turn so I focus on just killing the Charger, Lancer and one of the Fireflies, dealing decent damage to Dynamo with a final Griffon and getting most of his other shooting jacks engaged. We both score our own flags to start at 1-1.

Stu strikes back against my wounded jacks and finishes a lot of them off. Dynamo and the Firefly on the right each finish off a Griffon, and on the left the Stormclad gets involved and takes out one Griffon and seriously hurts the other. Stuart scores his zone and we both score flags to move to 3-2.

I need to continue pushing and have another strong turn, with the 2 heavies being the priority. The Griffons on the right build up Synergy and take out the Firefly, before my left lights and Vyros go in and wreck the Stormclad with some pretty strong dice. Imperatus then goes on a rampage finishing off Dynamo, Arlan, Finch and the objective, threatening wherever Nemo wants to stand next. The score moves to 4-4.

Stu recognises that the attrition game is over and so has to go for assassination. With 2 Shield Guards next to Vyros and only limited guns remaining it isn’t going to be easy, so he opts to have Nemo Force Hammer both Jacks down before trying to shoot Vyros dead with the Storm Strider and Firefly. The Strider only gets a single Power Token and so the assassination comes very short. Stu concedes.

VICTORY

Good to see this match up in action. I played pretty well but there are things I could definitely have done better including being more aware of the Force Hammer play. With first turn or a central forest I would feel really good in this match up, as it has enough natural bulk to take the Feat turn to the face. Stu was great during the game and we talked through other options afterwards to see how differently the game could have gone.
