Following the NWTC we had a catch up to look at our lists and find some holes in our matchups. As a result of this it was decided that I would give Rahn another go in Defenders of Ios. I switched my list up a bit from what I used at the Welsh, with double Stormfalls in place of the second Halberdier unit. My first test game was against Paul using Maddox. Paul wins the roll to go first.

Both Lance units get +3 armour buffs, and Maddox puts Assail up onto the Stormclad. Everything runs up, but stays out of threat of the aiming threat of the AFGs.

With Maddox not having any upkeep removal I can afford to get quite aggressive with the Polarity Shield Halberdiers, moving them up to just outside advance and reach range. An AFG takes out one Storm Lance on the left, with a Force Hammer and some Stormfall shots dealing with one on the right.

Unable to get much work done due to lack of charges Paul just has to walk up into the shooting gallery and take what he can, dealing with a handful of Halberdiers.

I open up with the guns and have an incredibly successful turn taking out all of the Storm Lances and all but one of the Stormblade Infantry, with a highlight being the Phoenix getting a Combustion blast off onto 6 Stormblades. I score the right zone to lead 1-0.

I forgot that Assail increased trample distances too, so unfortunately the Ironclad could get into the left AFG, taking it out under Maddox’s feat whilst the Stormclad took out my Phoenix. 1-0

My second AFG knocks down the Ironclad and the Stormfalls shoot it to death, scoring the left zone. I put attacks into the Stormclad but can’t quite take it out. 2-0

Paul takes out a couple of Halberdiers as well as the objective. 2-1.

I knock down Maddox and go for an assassination, but don’t roll well enough to take her out. I remove the Stormclad and score the right zone to lead 3-1

Paul goes for a long shot assassination on Rahn that fails. 3-1

I slam the Charger into Maddox and Lynus finishes her off.

VICTORY

-      I thought that the game was won after my turn 2 shooting, but found it tricky to grind the game out in the end

-      I do like the list though, but Paul really lacked anything that could threaten me.

-      Stormfalls did well, but absolutely require the opponent to be knocked down first
