Round 2 of the Sheffield
Steamroller saw me up against Stuart Chalk running one of my favourite casters
in the game, Mohsar the Desertwalker, in an interesting Bones of Orboros list.
Lots of shooting in the list with a couple of hard hitters to back it up, with
Mohsar’s tricks adding to it. A Vyros2 drop all day long, Stuart won the roll
to go first and got moving.
Mohsar puts up Sun Hammer on himself and Mirage
onto the Guardian to help out it’s threat range before all his forces run
or teleport up the table, Riling to
allow both Mohsar and the Fulcrum to be fully fuelled next turn. A couple of Pillars of Salt are put out to stop the
relatively minor amount of shooting in my army.
With Synergy up on Vyros I have to be a bit careful of the Woldwyrds, so
opt to stay safe behind a cloud, casting Deceleration
and protecting with a few Shield
Guards. The rest of my forces run up, with the support sufficiently far
back to protect them from Electro-Leaps and
Mannikin Sprays.
The circle gunline opens up into my
warjacks, and Stuart learns just how ineffective POW10/12 shooting is into
Vyros’ battlegroup. One Griffon is Stationary
and reduced to about half boxes, and a few other bits of damage are scattered
around, but in general my army is in pretty good shape. Mohsar puts out 4 Pillars to make my life difficult and
sits at the back of the zone camping nothing.
The Stationary Griffon shakes, and a quick measurement confirms that he
is in range of Mohsar, so I’m on for the assassination. An Aspis breaks both relevant
Pillars, before the other 3 left
Griffons take out Mannikins to build Synergy.
Arcanists fuel and Concentrated Power the
Griffon, with one doing a Repair to
make sure a lucky Sun Hammer roll
can’t take out the Halberd. The Griffon charges in through the forest, and
kills Mohsar with one shot.
VICTORY
Stuart
was in a really bad matchup here and the mispositioning of Mohsar (he forgot
about Bird’s Eye) only really sped up
how the game would realistically have gone. If not going for the assassination
I think I could have taken out both Wyrds on the right as well as the Guardian,
and coming back from that would have been very difficult. Nice to get on the
board for the event and hopefully I can push on from here.
