Round 3 of the NWTC saw us up against Team Scotland, with me up against Billy, one of their 2 Menoth players. The match up was Vyros2 against Testament, and with me getting the first turn we settle in for a real grind.

I cast Deceleration and get up the table.

Billy puts up Ashen Veil on the max unit of Errants and everything runs up the table as fast as possible. Let the grind begin.

I load up my jacks and make a start on the Menoth forces, taking out around 18 models across the Errants, Idrians and Knights. I feat to prepare for a strong response.

Instead of the attrition Billy decides to use his Feat and huge stack of souls to go for an assassination run on Vyros. He casts 6 fully boosted Dust to Dusts leaving him on 8 boxes or so before searching for other attacks. A mix up in order of activations means that the CRA from Idrians is Shield Guarded and the last few attacks from Elias and an Errant can’t get the job done. He scrambles a defence together and scores twice to lead 2-0.

At this point I have to choose between an attrition play or going for a tricky counter assassination, and the low HP of Vyros makes me opt for the latter. I built a plan around getting Vyros himself onto Testament, but had to be careful with my placement and order of activation to get him there, but thankfully was able to do so despite forgetting Defensive Strike on the Devout, and Vyros put ToM in the dirt.

VICTORY

-      Vyros should have been camping another 1 or 2 to make certain the assassination wouldn’t succeed, it was a bit of an uncomfortable time, especially as the first few damage rolls spiked pretty hard.
-      The team won the round 4-1, going 3-0 for the day and guaranteeing a place in the top pod for the Sunday.
