Hellmouth
After being violently taken apart
by Mark’s Thagros list using Elara, I wanted to see if my Vyros2 list would be
able to handle it. I again won the roll to go first and we got moving.
Vyros casts Deceleration and uses both his gun shots to shoot off 2 Tentacles
from the left unit. The Jacks all run up using the central building and each
other to build an “anti-Hellmouth” formation.
As per the last game Thagrost puts
up Fog of War and Draconic Blessing onto the right unit of
Warspears before everyone moves up under the Blightbringer Aura.
Number 1 job this turn is to get
rid of both Hellmouths, so jacks are Focussed and Concentrated Powered up. Vyros feats as I’m definitely going to
lose some Jacks next turn, before the lights go in. In all, it takes 2 Aspis
and 3 Griffons to get them killed. 34 points worth of Jacks to kill 2 free 6
point units. Seems reasonable.
The first wave of Ogryn come in and
deal a decent chunk of damage, but don’t do as much as I feared. A lot of
Griffons are badly dinged up, but only one is actually destroyed by the Draconic Blessing unit, allowing one of
the rear Griffons to move up into threat range. We both score our flags to
start the scoring at 1-1.
With the alpha weathered I have a
real opportunity to get a load of Ogrun killed. I have to find the balance
between killing models and not triggering too much Vengeance, but the unit on the left is far away to not give away
any more attacks so I kill the one forward model from the unit along with the
entire small unit. On the right I kill 3 of the right unit of Spears and all
but 1 of the Warmongers. It feels like a pretty decent turn of attrition. I
score my flag for a 2-1 lead.
Mark starts his turn by going for
an assassination on Vyros, but the Mutogenesis
attack on the Arcanist misses, so he decides to kill the Aspis in front of
him instead. From here he attritions pretty well, finishing off a lot of the
Jacks that were damaged in the previous turn, leaving me with just 3 lights and
Imperatus. WE both score our flags to move to 3-2 to me.
With Thagrosh well up the table and
not camping much it is definitely time to go for assassination. 2 lights and
Imperatus build up Synergy by killing
off some Orgun, before Vyros goes in and uses his 7 attacks to leave Thagrosh
on no transfers and a couple of boxes. The last Griffon then advances up to
finish him off.
VICTORY
A really
tough game. That list is super solid and is only going to get better when the
solos are released in the future. There’s nothing subtle about it, it’s just a
load of high numbers smashing you in the face. This game would probably feel a
lot better if there were a forest or cloud centrally but it is definitely good
to get a test with it into the worst possible circumstance.
