As discussed in my Helynna testing a week or so ago I thought that looking at Vyros2 in Legions of Dawn was worthwhile, as Rean in America has been having a lot of success with the list. I put a list together that I liked the feel off with a few tricks up its sleeve. My first opponent was Glen with his Terminus Ghost Fleet. I won the roll to go first despite him having +1 and we got moving.

Having to cast Synergy feels odd having exclusively played Vyros2 in Forges, but I do so along with Deceleration and get up the table. Then I quickly realise that the other big change in this list to my usual is that Vyros is the quickest thing in it. The rest of my forces dawdle behind and get ready for next turn.

With my forces out of range all there is for Glen to do is to set up Malediction and get his forces up the table. Barathrum moves up to the edge of the zone and Digs In to reduce the impact of my shooting. The Ghost Raiders move most aggressively up in the centre with the cannon sitting on the far left flank, and the Hellslinger on the far right.

Most of my troops are out of charge range but I have a lot of guns in this list and it is time to see what they can do. Vyros and the 5 Vyre lights shoot into the Cryx forces, and whilst no Revenant leaders were RFP’d, I was able to take out Blackbane and all but one of his Raiders (one of whom took out Agrimony with a Devildriver attack) and the Hellslinger phantom. 2 Sentinels charged into Barathrum, taking out it’s Cortex, before Vyros recast Deceleration and Feated.

Most Terminus games seem to see him Feat turn 2 and get really aggressive, and this was no different. He Assault sprayed 4 Sentinels, killing a couple, before getting up to 5 total souls from other attacks in his army. In doing so however he triggered Vengeance on both units, giving me the opportunity to strike back hard in my next turn. The Wraith Engine runs aggressively into the middle of my army and Rengrave scores his flag to give Glen a 1-0 lead.

This needs to be my big attrition turn and it goes incredibly well. Vengeance moves, a Griffon and my Scyir finish off Barathrum, before the magical melee weapons of the Sirens are turned onto the Wraith Engine, killing it with focus to spare. A final Siren is able to RFP a Revenant leader, switching off the recursion, and the left unit is reduced to just a single Rifleman by my Sentinels. I score the right zone and my flag for a 2-1 lead, as well as a huge advantage on attrition.

Whilst I had been careful to keep Vyros out of Terminus’ walking threat range I had made a mistake that turned out to be fatal. The Siren was in the forest, and in LOS to Terminus, allowing him to charge it in a way that kept him in melee with Vyros. A few bought attacks later and my caster was dead.

DEFEAT

An unfortunate defeat, caused by a single slight positioning error. I only went into the forest in order to get the half inch range claw into the Battle Engine, and would have easily taken it down without it. In terms of the list though I really liked it. It feels so much stronger than the Helynna version, and has a lot more to offer. I don’t like the Griffon in the list, and would prefer a 4th Siren instead, but do appreciate the extra bit of Pathfinder that the Griffon offers. I definitely want to play this more to see if it has merit over the Forges version.
